Zongzi

Zongzi is food for eating on special occasion. The most famous food for the Dragonboat Festival is Zongzi, you can call it sticky rice dumplings.

There are Zongzi made from sticky rice and bamboo, inside which there is any kind of fillings. It depends on what people like. Zongzi are wraped tightly with cotton thread.

This dish has a very special history. It is the story of Quyuan, who killed himself because he gave good advice to the king but the king was very stubborn and didn't listen to him, QoYuan was so angry and sad that he dived into a river. People threw Zongzi into the water to try to save his body for being eaten by the fish.

Today we eat these Zongzi at the Dragonboat festival to the memory of Quyuan.
